Bill on people's militia to go through first reading in Belarus
Those planning to pursue secondary vocational or professional-technical education still have time to consider their options, while those applying for targeted training should hurry. The specifics of the 2023 admission campaign, its timeline, enrollment plans, and new specialties in universities and colleges were discussed at a press conference organized by the Vitebsk Region Media Center in conjunction with the Minsk Press House.
Dmitry Khoma, Head of the Main Department for Education of the Regional Executive Committee, noted that an important stage has been completed: centralized exams were successfully held in the Vitebsk region. It is reminded that the scores obtained in these exams, according to new rules, will be considered when submitting documents to universities along with the results of the centralized testing (CT). In the main period, 5396 people took the CE in Russian (Belarusian) language, and 5389 took it in a chosen academic subject. Mathematics was the most popular subject among graduates of the Vitebsk region, with 2062 people choosing it. According to Dmitry Khoma, it was somewhat unexpected that many wanted to take biology, with 1059 people opting for it. For comparison, 587 and 573 people took exams in English and the History of Belarus, respectively, which follow in this conditional ranking.
One might say that the admission campaign lies ahead for yesterday's graduates. However, in reality, it has already started long ago. Essentially, it was opened by the regional and final stages of the republican subject Olympiads, as well as Olympiads held in the 2022/23 academic year at universities. Talented students who became winners of these competitions now have admission privileges, so many applicants only need to submit their documents to the admissions committee to become students.
For example, Yuri Romanovsky, Rector of PSU named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk, said that 54 schoolchildren received diplomas at their university Olympiads. They will be able to submit documents to the university in early June, simultaneously with those who plan to study under targeted training agreements. More than 60 winners of Olympiads held at the medical university received invitations to become students in March, as reported by Alina Shchupakova, First Vice-Rector of VGMU. Many such capable applicants are also expected at VSU named after P. Masherov this year.
In 2023, the opportunities for obtaining higher education through targeted programs have also expanded. The main thing here is not to miss the deadline for submitting documents: from June 1 to June 5 (the certificate must be submitted to the admissions committee by June 15).
Dmitry Khoma noted that the education system strives to keep pace with the needs of the economy and make appropriate changes to the structure of personnel training. Taking into account customer needs, new in-demand specialties are being introduced in both universities and colleges of the Vitebsk region. For example, in 2023, new programs will appear at PSU named after P. Masherov ("Microbiology" and "Socio-Pedagogical and Psychological Education") and PSU named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk ("Graphic Design and Multimedia Design" and "Business Administration"). "Vitebskiye Vesti" has previously reported on new offerings at the secondary vocational education level. There will also be changes in vocational-technical education. Students will be offered qualifications such as "Stove Maker" (Orsha State Polytechnic College), "Body Repairman" (Vitebsk State Technical College), "Track Layer" (Vitebsk State Agrarian-Technical College), "Forester" (Lepel State Agrarian-Technical College), "Rolling Stock Repair Mechanic" (Novopolotsk State Polytechnic College).
Representatives of all five state universities in our region and the heads of several colleges in Vitebsk and Orsha detailed the advantages and opportunities of specific educational institutions during a press conference. This allowed us to showcase the potential of the Dvina region in personnel training to residents of different regions of Belarus, as anyone could join the event online.
