Iran's ambassador visits Belarusian State University
Combine harvester operator Vasily Kosov of Shaiterovo OJSC in the Verkhnedvinsk district was the first in the Vitebsk region to thresh a thousand tons of grain and rapeseed.
One of the best machine operators in the farm is 41 years old, and since he was eighteen, he has been working in the fields of Shaiterovo – plowing, sowing, applying organic matter, and harvesting. During the harvest season, he consistently demonstrates high results. Three years ago, he switched to a New Holland combine and in his first season threshed over 4 thousand tons. In other years, his performance approached or exceeded 3 thousand tons. Vasily Kosov has been honored multiple times at the regional agrarian festival "Dazhynki" and received a Letter of Gratitude from the Prime Minister of Belarus.
When asked how he manages to achieve such high threshing results, the harvest hero replies: the equipment is good and the yield is high.
Although, as noted by the Chairman of the Verkhnedvinsk District Executive Committee, Vasily Shilov, the weather did not please the agrarians this year.
- You saw the conditions in the Vitebsk region – drought. Meanwhile, the harvesting campaign started earlier than in 2022, and to date, we are ahead of last year in terms of threshing. Of course, we won't match last year's harvest, but the results are not bad, and this is the first thousand-ton thresher from our district, – said Vasily Shilov.
Congratulating the combine harvester operator on overcoming this significant milestone, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin noted that the first thousand-ton thresher in the Vitebsk region is a great celebration and victory.
– You seize every minute between the rains, understanding that you cannot waste such precious harvesting time, thereby ensuring the food security of Belarus, – emphasized the head of the region.

The weather conditions have somewhat spoiled our mood, but we have always overcome difficult situations thanks to the machine operators, the guys who work in the fields from morning till night, – said the President's Aide – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Igor Brylo.
According to the Director of Shaiterovo OJSC, Mikhail Gumnenkov, 12 combines are participating in the harvest. The grain and leguminous crop area in the farm is slightly over 2.3 thousand hectares, 44% of the area has been harvested, and 4.6 thousand tons of grain have been threshed with a yield of 45 centners per hectare. Considering the challenging year in terms of drought, the farm also has good indicators for winter rapeseed. Out of 250 hectares, more than two-thirds have been threshed, with an oilseed yield of 33 centners per hectare.
In the Vitebsk region, 48.8 thousand hectares (18.2% of the cultivated area) of grain and leguminous crops have been harvested, 130 thousand tons of grain have been threshed, with an average yield of 26.6 centners per hectare.
