The history of social protection of the population in our state dates back to January 5, 1919, when the Commissariat of Social Security was established by the Decree of the Provisional Workers' and Peasants' Government of Belarus.

Over the past 105 years, the functions of social protection bodies have expanded, and currently they cover not only traditional areas such as pension provision, social services, and social assistance, but also social and labor relations, remuneration, employment promotion, and labor conditions and protection.

Today, more than six thousand people work in the labor, employment, and social protection bodies of the Vitebsk region and subordinate organizations.

The destinies of specific individuals and the stability of society depend on the level and reliability of the implementation of state social guarantees and a responsible attitude to work.
