"Vitebsk Zelenstroy" has grown about 10,000 tulips and over 30,000 roses for International Women's Day, said Valentina Shendyukova, deputy director for production at the enterprise.
"We have grown about 10,000 tulips and over 30,000 roses for International Women's Day. These are the most popular types of flowers that are always in high demand before and during the main women's holiday. In total, our greenhouses cover an area of 1.1 hectares, where we also grow seedlings for street landscaping. We plant tulips from bulbs in December so that they are in full bloom by March 8," noted Valentina Shendyukova.
In the closed greenhouses, "festive" flowers grow at a specific temperature. Tulips are quite comfortable at 14 degrees Celsius, while roses need a warmer microclimate - from plus 16 to plus 18 degrees. 17 florists look after the delicate plants. Watering and feeding are carried out strictly according to schedule to avoid overdoing it. The greenhouses are equipped with sensors that react to changes in temperature and humidity, and water and fertilizer are supplied to each flower drop by drop, strictly on schedule.
The enterprise receives applications in advance from organizations and city residents who already know where to find fresh flowers and want to delight women on March 8 with a fragrant gift. Vitebsk residents also visit the branded stores of "Vitebsk Zelenstroy" to personally select flowers of their preferred shade and length, and to assemble a bouquet themselves or with the help of consultants.
In addition to roses and common tulips, the enterprise has also grown other flowers to add variety to bouquets. For example, elegant alstroemeria, statice, and gypsophila, which are traditionally included in many floral arrangements.
The greenhouses of "Vitebsk Zelenstroy" also have decorative greenery - both with dense straight and thin carved leaves. Asparagus "sprigs," resembling giant fluffy dill, are familiar to almost everyone since childhood. They add a touch of lightness and airiness to bouquets. In suitable packaging, such bouquets look quite presentable. However, for the fair sex, sometimes attention from loved ones is more important than the appearance of the floral gift.
Also, the enterprise makes baskets for the holiday. They can be filled with floral arrangements that look fresh, voluminous, and original. Recently, they have been in high demand and offer a good alternative to bouquets that require a vase. "We grow fresh flowers in our greenhouses every year for the women's holiday, so that lovely ladies are not left without a beautiful bouquet on their special day," noted the deputy director of the enterprise.
