Belarus hosts 3,374 visa-waiver visitors from Europe over past week
Initiative groups note that voter turnout remains high – people are readily using the opportunity to sign in support of their preferred candidate.
For instance, three picket lines were organized on Tuesday, December 3, in Orsha. The location chosen was a busy one – at the entrance to the shopping area of the "Euroopt" supermarket on Yakubovsky Street. Consequently, there were many who wished to support their candidate.
Here, signature collection groups were set up for the incumbent President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, Sergey Syranov, and individual entrepreneur Anna Kanopatskaya.
Lyudmila Knypik, a member of the initiative group for collecting signatures for the incumbent President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, admits that this is her third presidential campaign, so she has something to compare it with.
– The activity has noticeably increased, – the woman says. – Everyone is benevolent, people are signing with good spirits, consciously. I see a significantly increased level of political maturity among our citizens. People understand the value of peace above their heads, stability, and tranquility. Some lament that they don't have their passports with them. However, they still go home and return with their documents to sign for a candidate. Some share what concerns them and how they would like to see their leader. Therefore, I would add that picket lines are not just for signature collection, but rather platforms for public dialogue.
For example, friends and colleagues Olga and Tatyana stated that participating in elections at all stages is the duty of everyone who cares about the future. The women stopped by the store for groceries after work, saw the picket lines, and without hesitation decided to support their candidate.
– We are signing for peace, stability, and reliability, – they outlined their choice. – The future President, above all, must be fair, decent, a person of their word, and a strong leader.
