Uzbekistan, Belarus step up cultural and humanitarian cooperation
State officials carried out landscaping work on the adjacent territory to the Holy Assumption Cathedral and Uspenskaya Hill.
Having swapped ties and formal suits for casual wear, the regional and city leadership got down to a good cause and helped tidy up the area near the Holy Assumption Cathedral, which is one of the central religious landmarks of the regional center. Fallen leaves and trimmed tree branches were collected from the slope near the church, paths were swept, and trash was removed. Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin worked side by side with Chairman of the City Executive Committee Nikolai Orlov – they were busy planting a small alley near the war memorial on Uspenskaya Hill. The leading officials planted decorative currant bushes, which bloom almost until the frost, although they do not bear fruit.
In Vitebsk, the month-long campaign to tidy up the land will continue until the end of April.
Nikolai Orlov spoke about who has already joined the initiative: "During the month-long campaign, road repairs and green planting are being carried out. On the eve of the republican subbotnik and Easter, we decided to hold the 'Clean Thursday' event. The location was not chosen by chance. Uspenskaya Hill is our pride, our memory. To make the city green and beautiful, we decided to plant a hedge of Alpine currant in this part. Labor collectives, students from schools, secondary vocational schools, and universities supported the initiative. And civil servants could not stand aside; they came to the cleanup to make our city cleaner and even more beautiful in a unified effort. We must also give credit to the residents of the private sector who came out to improve their household plots."
