The introduction of a single currency with Russia is not a matter for today. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

"I would like to learn something, to ask a number of questions that are on the minds of many heads of state today. You see this in our speeches. We probably say a lot, but if we understand something (like reserve currency and so on), we don't quite understand when it will happen and how it will develop. Therefore, these questions interest me the most. Your point of view, the point of view of your specialists," the President said.

"There are no questions about the fact that our Interbank Currency Council (of the Central Bank of Russia and the National Bank of Belarus. - BELTA note) is working. I often cite your, our chairman's, quotes at the level of heads of state when it comes to creating a single currency and so on, that this is a difficult process. And, probably, not a matter for today, as we agreed with the President of Russia," Alexander Lukashenko stated.

At the same time, the head of state noted that "some patriotic people in Russia and Belarus often raise this issue." "I would also like to hear your point of view on the current situation. I know that old point of view well," he said. "As for the currency council, thank you very much. You are a universally recognized figure. Even our enemies admit that Elvira Nabiullina quickly grasped the economic issues in Russia and currency problems, especially under sanctions. I am almost quoting our enemies."
