Constantly revising curricula and endlessly publishing new textbooks is unacceptable. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on improving the education system, according to a BELTA correspondent.

"Today we will also talk about the content of the educational process, or rather, about the textbooks our children are taught from. I am very concerned that there are still questions about their quality. We are forced to respond to citizens' appeals and figure out what is wrong with our textbooks. I believe this is a serious oversight by the Ministry of Education for several years now," the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that when writing new textbooks and manuals, authors think in terms of experienced teachers and other specialists. He believes that this approach is incorrect and that the focus should be on students. "We need to look at them. They do not have the same knowledge as we do. And they have no experience. Therefore, we need to focus on them and prepare textbooks for them. And the system of assessing knowledge (exams, etc.) should also be tailored to them," the President emphasized.

"Back at the pedagogical council on August 24, 2021, I spoke about the unacceptability of constantly revising curricula and plans and endlessly publishing new textbooks. I noted that it is necessary to return to the Soviet experience, to take the best manuals and gradually refine and improve them, not to print new ones. Because a new team always tries to be original (you are scientists, you understand this): 'I want to be different from what was and show my prowess.' No one needs this. The main principle of our state's work and any processes occurring in our state is the calm improvement of what humanity has developed. We stand, as I said, repeating a great quote, on the shoulders of giants. We should not jump off these shoulders – we will lose all that humanity has developed before us. We must use it for the sake of the future. Therefore, we must improve and not be ashamed to take the best from what was," the Belarusian leader said.
