Lukashenko on propaganda and agitation: we have and must have our own ideology

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko emphasized the importance of ideological work at a meeting with youth activists, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

One of the questions from youth representatives concerned the media and the presidential pool of journalists. Alexander Lukashenko said that he observes the work of journalists, evaluates it, and sometimes criticizes it. "They are in plain sight. I respect them very much," said the head of state.

He noted that after 2020, there appeared not even a presidential, but a whole pool of journalists who looked differently at the events happening around.

The head of state also notes certain shortcomings in the work of journalists, as he himself was professionally involved in propaganda and counter-propaganda in ideological work before. "I convince my journalists not to shy away from this. Yes, we are engaged in propaganda and agitation. This is natural. We promote our best. We agitate people to create and produce this best. We have and must have our own ideology. An ideological direction, ideological work," emphasized the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that in the work of the Presidential Administration, personnel and ideology are two fundamental areas of work.

"And there is no need to invent anything here. Yes, propaganda and agitation. Nothing better has been invented. They turned us away from this in order to create chaos. But we had a good system," noted the head of state.

At the same time, speaking about ideology and the work of public associations, in particular the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM), the President stressed the inadmissibility of formalism, which was often present in Soviet times. The organization must have real authority.

Returning to the issue of journalists, Alexander Lukashenko noted that now, in times of information confrontation, it is the media workers who have found themselves on the front lines. "There is no getting anywhere without them now. And they help me a lot to convey to you, to those who are interested in life, the policy that I am trying to pursue," he said.
