Lukashenko urges to make social assistance more targeted

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demanded to strengthen the targeted nature of social support. He stated this while receiving officials with a report on improving social support for the population, a BELTA correspondent reports.

 

"You know my position: we must support those who need to be supported, and those who should work and earn for themselves should work and earn," the head of state noted, emphasizing that otherwise, the result of such support will be dependency.

As an example of such misguided social policy, Alexander Lukashenko cited Germany and other Western European countries. "Now, the issue of migration policy is being raised very seriously in the West. And where did it arise from? From inviting people to Germany (there is no one to work). And from the large sums of money they gave to the people who arrived. Today, they have come to their senses. And it is quite difficult to reverse this in a powerful country like Germany. And certain politicians lack the willpower," the President noted.

"Therefore, we should not drive ourselves into this trap. In no case," the head of state emphasized. "If there is such a need (if necessary. - BELTA note), we must help. But the money must reach the person we are helping, the person we want to help."

At the same time, the President stressed that when making certain decisions in the sphere of social support, the current difficult situation must be taken into account.

 

"Can we or can we not? What will be the effect of this?" the head of state guided the officials.
