Lukashenko pointed to the government's colossal shortcomings in supporting the scientific sphere
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting with a working group to analyze the activities of the National Academy of Sciences, pointed to a colossal oversight by the government in supporting the scientific sphere, BELTA correspondent reports.
The Head of State drew attention to the shortcomings in the activities of the NAS, but at the same time emphasized that the identified problems relate not only to the Academy of Sciences but also to the State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) and sectoral ministries. "Perhaps even primarily to them," said Alexander Lukashenko. "Where is the coordinating and managing role of the SCST? Yet, this is its main function, for which it was created."
According to the President, the analysis of scientific programs shows that ministries do not actually participate in them. They are practically absent among the customers. "And this is a colossal oversight by the government. Don't industries have a demand for scientific developments?" the Head of State asked rhetorically. "Those working in the government, Roman Alexandrovich (Golovchenko, Prime Minister. - BELTA note), act as temporary workers: day until evening - and that's fine. But what about afterwards? What about the future? It's impossible without science."
