Lukashenko, Putin meet after informal CIS summit
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, citing Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced Russia's readiness to supply gas to Germany. The Belarusian leader stated this to journalists on the sidelines of the EAEU summit, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
Journalists asked the head of state about his recent statement at a meeting with Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, that EU countries might soon resume cooperation with Russia and Belarus. "I think sooner or later (and after the Emirates, I am absolutely convinced) Europe will open up to us. Europe cannot exist without Russia, it cannot exist without us, so good high-speed roads are needed," he said then.
And on the sidelines of the EAEU summit, Alexander Lukashenko confirmed this thesis: "Of course, it will open up. Where else can they go? Read what the future Chancellor of Germany says, in my opinion: 'We are not children. We know what cheap gas is.' This means they will buy cheap gas from Russia. Only idiots can fail to take advantage of this. Especially since one strand of the gas pipeline (referring to the preserved strand of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. - BELTA's note) - they didn't manage to blow it up there. Therefore, Russia can supply 25 billion cubic meters through this strand (can supply. - BELTA's note)."
