Belarusian president invited to attend first Board of Peace meeting
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko received an invitation to the first leaders' meeting within the framework of the Peace Council. This was stated to BELTA by the Press Secretary of the President of Belarus, Natalya Eismont.
"Yes, an invitation to the first leaders' meeting within the framework of the Peace Council was received by the President of Belarus. Unfortunately, we received it late, the President's work schedule for this period was already planned. Yes, we would gladly visit the United States of America, but there are issues that cannot be postponed," the press secretary said. "In addition, we also take into account the possible logistical difficulties that may arise due to illegal sanctions, primarily from the European Union - considering the closure of airspace over the EU."
"In this regard, and despite our desire, the President will not be able to participate in this event. At the same time, I emphasize: we fully share the focus of the US President and the Peace Council on resolving all world conflicts peacefully," said Natalya Eismont.
She reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will represent the country in Washington, who is fully immersed in the topic of the Republic of Belarus's participation in the Peace Council and other issues of the regional situation and bilateral Belarusian-American relations.
"The American side has already been informed of this decision," the press secretary added.
As reported, the USA plans to hold a Peace Council meeting in Washington on February 19.
