Prohibition on the fishing of wels catfish

The Verkhnedvinsk Interdistrict Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora reports that, based on the Rules of Amateur Fishing and the Rules for Maintaining Fishing Farms, approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of July 21, 2021, No. 284 "On Fishing and Fisheries". The catching of common catfish is prohibited from May 31 to July 1, 2023, and in the Brest and Gomel regions - from May 19 to June 19, 2023.

Any common catfish caught must be released back into the water body alive and unharmed.

Administrative penalties for illegal catching of common catfish include a fine of 10 to 30 Basic Units, and for each catfish caught during the closed season, the environmental damage is calculated at triple the rate and amounts to 12 BU (444 rubles).
