On the Entry into Force of Environmental Norms and Rules

As of April 26, 2024, Resolution No. 15-T of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection dated December 15, 2023, approving Environmental Norms and Rules EcoNNR 17.06.01-006-2023 "Environmental Protection and Nature Management. Hydrosphere. Water Quality Standards for Surface Water Bodies," enters into force.

The document establishes water quality standards for surface water bodies to ensure favorable conditions for the reproduction of aquatic biological resources and the safety of products derived from them.

The requirements do not apply to retention ponds and technological water bodies.

The established standards are applied by legal entities and individual entrepreneurs when:

- developing calculations for permissible discharge limits of chemical and other substances in wastewater;

- conducting local environmental monitoring as part of the National Environmental Monitoring System in the Republic of Belarus;

- conducting industrial observations in the field of environmental protection and rational (sustainable) use of natural resources;

- conducting surface water monitoring and local environmental monitoring as part of the National Environmental Monitoring System in Belarus;

- sampling and conducting measurements in the field of environmental protection within the framework of control (supervisory) activities.

In addition, the document defines:

- indicators of water quality for surface water bodies used for reproduction, feeding, overwintering, and migration of fish species of the Salmoniformes and Acipenseriformes orders, as well as other surface water bodies;

- maximum permissible concentrations of chemical and other substances in the water of surface water bodies.
