Fox

?Foxes are not only confidently walking in villages, but are also increasingly visiting large cities

Residents of Belarusian cities are increasingly complaining about visits from foxes. If earlier they were noticed on the outskirts and near forest areas, now the red guests are venturing closer and closer to the center of settlements. Eyewitnesses post photos and videos on social networks, and other users are amazed: the animals are not afraid of people at all.

?Is such behavior of wild animals anomalous?
?How to behave when encountering foxes face to face?

Large predators in the wild can displace smaller animals, and they leave the forest, becoming more accustomed to humans. The most dangerous option is illness, as foxes suffer from rabies more often than other animals. Sick individuals lack a sense of fear, so they calmly enter cities and can attack people without reason, causing them injuries. Sick foxes can be distinguished from healthy ones by the overly confident behavior and brazen look of the former. Moreover, if saliva drips from the animal's mouth, it is direct evidence that it is infected with rabies. And another thing: a healthy animal will never come into contact with a person and will not take food from their hands.

If you do encounter a fox on the street or come across a wild animal in the forest, it is important to remain calm and follow instructions. Remember that wild animals can be dangerous, but with the right behavior, you can avoid trouble. Do not approach closely, and especially do not pet the predator or feed it by hand. Usually, foxes do not attack humans first, but sudden movements and loud noises can scare the animal and provoke aggression. You should not wave your hands trying to drive the animal away, look it in the eyes, or bare your teeth – this can be perceived as a challenge to fight. You should not turn your back and try to run away.

The safest option is to stand calmly, waiting for the fox to run away on its own, or to back away to a safe distance. If a bite cannot be avoided, you should immediately seek medical attention at a trauma center.
