Hunter

The Ministry of Forestry has updated the hunting regulations for wild animals, which came into force on May 21, 2025.
The main innovation is the approval of an instruction according to which plans for culling wild animals whose populations are subject to regulation will now be developed and approved annually. This applies to all species except European bison from the reserve gene pool – separate regulations apply to them.
Who and how plans the culling:
- Hunting users must develop such plans based on special documents – hunting management documentation.
- Plans are drawn up for the entire hunting ground or its parts, depending on the zone.
- For bears and lynx, plans are drawn up separately – according to special population management plans.
The document also defines the periods during which it is permitted to hunt different species of animals:
Fallow deer from August 20 to December 31
Elk, red deer from August 20 to January 31
Roe deer, sika deer from May 15 to December 31
Wild boar from April 1 to March 31
Mouflon from October 1 to December 31
Capercaillie, black grouse (at leks) from March 20 to May 10
Black grouse (summer-autumn) from the 2nd Saturday of August to the 2nd Sunday of December
Beaver, otter from September 1 to March 31
Bear from July 1 to December 31
Lynx from October 1 to January 31
The previous resolution of the Ministry of Forestry from 2020 is no longer in effect. However, already approved hunting plans remain valid until the end of their term.
