Recommendations for the public when encountering wild animals
It is advisable not to visit the forest alone. When going into the forest, inform your loved ones exactly where you are going and when you plan to return, and do not forget communication devices. In the forest, appropriate clothing and footwear are necessary to protect against possible stings from wasps, bees, hornets, and snake bites.
Do not try to sneak up on an animal! It is better to prevent an encounter – make noise by talking, laughing, singing, shuffling, or stomping your feet. If you do encounter an animal, give it an opportunity to leave.
Also:
- do not run away from an animal, do not turn your back to it, but slowly back away, observing its behavior;
- do not look directly into its eyes, but do not lose sight of it;
- do not panic, do not make sudden movements, do not wave your hands, do not shout. You need to freeze and assess the situation – the animal's condition, its reaction;
- never approach closely, do not try to pet it, especially if the animal is approaching you – this is one of the signs of rabies!
- do not throw anything at animals;
- keep your distance from mammal young.
