Changes in water protection legislation

On July 9, the Government of the country submitted to the House of Representatives the draft Law "On Amendments to the Water Code of the Republic of Belarus".

The draft Law has been developed with the aim of improving the legal regulation of relations arising in the field of water protection and use, taking into account the practice of applying the Water Code of the Republic of Belarus.

In accordance with the draft law, it is proposed to present the Water Code of the Republic of Belarus in a new edition.

The draft Law, in particular:

- clearly delineates the existing spheres of regulation of public relations that are similar in nature and arise in the field of water protection and use;
- provides for the specifics of legal regulation of relations by the President of the Republic of Belarus;
- the Water Code of the Republic of Belarus is supplemented with powers for local executive and administrative bodies to manage water resources in the respective territory, defining the priorities of their targeted use, taking into account national interests;
- provides for special requirements that allow regulating the consequences of unauthorized work on water bodies.

The main commission for the draft law has already identified the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on Ecology and Nature Management, and the draft law is now under consideration.
