By 2040, the waste utilization rate in Belarus should be at least 90%

This indicator is provided for by the Strategy for the Management of Production and Consumption Waste, developed and approved by the country's government.

At an expanded meeting of the board of the regional committee for natural resources and environmental protection, the issue of organizing a system for collecting and processing municipal waste was considered.

It was noted that in 2024, the volume of solid municipal waste (SMW) in the Vitebsk region amounted to about 447 thousand tons. To provide services for the management of SMW, 222 garbage trucks and 89.6 thousand containers are involved, including 42.5 thousand for separate collection of secondary material resources (SMR).

The following types of SMR are collected (procured) by housing and communal services entities: waste paper and cardboard, glass, polymers, electronic and electrical equipment, worn-out tires, used oil.
