One of the dangers for fish during the winter period is oxygen depletion, which causes mass mortality of aquatic inhabitants as a result of a decrease in dissolved oxygen in the water.

One of the most effective measures to prevent winter oxygen depletion is ice holes. On average, there should be 3 to 5 ice holes per hectare. Ice holes should be made in the center of the water body and along its perimeter, where the depth of the unfrozen water layer is 50-60 cm.

To prevent them from freezing, bundles of reeds, cattails, and other hollow, "breathing" plants should be installed, or 5 kg salt bags should be suspended.
