The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection told which plants are the most invasive in Belarus

Tatsiana Zheleznova, Head of the Department of Biological and Landscape Diversity of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, in the project BELTA "Country Speaks" spoke about the most invasive plants in Belarus.

Tatsiana Zheleznova noted that the most invasive plants in Belarus are Sosnowsky's hogweed and Canadian goldenrod.

"Others, according to scientists' estimates and inventory, are potentially invasive. If they are not controlled and monitored, their numbers will grow, and measures will have to be taken."

Hogweed is dangerous to humans, so citizens are actively involved in combating it.
The situation with Canadian goldenrod is the opposite.

"Citizens consider it a beautiful flower, a good honey plant. It has spread from garden plots into the wild. Goldenrod has a high level of aggression: it displaces all plants, reproduces quickly, and occupies territories. Out of 10 species, the most aggressive ones requiring annual systematic work are Sosnowsky's hogweed and Canadian goldenrod."
