Agrometeorologists: the upcoming cold snap is not dangerous for winter crops

No dangerous phenomena for most overwintering crops were observed during the past wintering period.

In early January, when the lowest air temperatures were recorded, the soil temperature at the depth of the tillering node of winter cereal crops did not drop to dangerous levels. Only in some places in the southwest of Belarus, where the snow cover was very sparse or absent at that time, partial damage to winter rapeseed is possible.

According to the latest data, the snow depth in the fields has increased over most of Belarus. Such snow cover is now capable of protecting winter crops from impending frosts. There is less snow in the southwest of the country.

Considering the ongoing and expected snowfalls, which will increase the snow cover depth, the predicted cold snap poses no danger to overwintering crops.
