The Novopolotsk regional complex for solid municipal waste management has been put into operation
Today marked the grand opening of the Novopolotsk Regional Municipal Solid Waste Management Complex, attended by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection S.M. Maslyak, the First Deputy Minister of Housing and Communal Services A.M. Beket, the Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee D.V. Petrusha, and the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection R.F. Kolts!
The facility "Novopolotsk Regional MSW Management Complex" of UP "Biomekhzavod of Household Secondary Resources" with a capacity of up to 80 thousand tons of MSW per year was commissioned on December 31, 2025.
In the Vitebsk region, this MSW management complex will be the second. The complex will serve two large cities – Polotsk and Novopolotsk, as well as three districts – Polotsky, Rossonsky, and Ushachsky.
This complex consists of a regional landfill, a waste sorting plant (on the territory of the landfill), and a composting site.
The MSW management complex includes: phased semi-automatic sorting of mixed MSW with the extraction of secondary material resources, composting, processing of heavily contaminated polymer waste, bulky construction and wood waste, and thermal destruction of biological and medical waste.
The Novopolotsk complex is the only one in the Vitebsk region where medical waste will be disposed of.
The Novopolotsk Regional MSW Management Complex will significantly expand the range of MSW processing and improve the MSW management system in the region.
