'Green Schools' is an international environmental education project aimed at fostering a caring attitude towards nature among children and youth.

The "Green Schools" program was adapted for Belarus within the framework of the UNDP project "Enhancing Environmental Awareness of Youth through the Establishment and Development of "Green Schools" in Belarus", with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection as the national implementing agency.

Any school, school forestry, extracurricular activity center, or environmental center for children and youth in Belarus was invited to join the environmental movement.
What needs to be done to become a "Green School"?
Within the project, each participant is offered to complete a set of tasks, grouped into five areas:
Biodiversity – studying the species diversity of plants and animals in the educational institution's natural environment and ways to increase it;
Energy Saving – studying the structure of energy consumption at home and in the educational institution and ways to reduce it;
Water Saving – studying the directions of water use in the educational institution and at home and ways to reduce its use;
Waste Management – analyzing waste generation sources, identifying methods for their minimization, recycling, and reuse;
Information and Environmental Events – campaigns, exhibitions, competitions, environmental initiatives, environmental education for the local population.
The number of schools increases annually; as of 01.01.2026, approximately 100 institutions hold the special "Green School" certificate, with 3 of them located in the Rossony district.
