The Government has approved the strategy and the National Plan for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity

Alexander Turchin signed the Resolution of the Council of Ministers "On issues in the field of conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity".

The Resolution approves the Strategy for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity.

Its goal is to prevent the reduction in the number of wild animal and wild plant species, increase the species diversity of genetically and economically valuable biological resources, and ensure the safe movement, use, and release of genetically engineered organisms into the environment of the Republic of Belarus.

The Strategy provides for the implementation of the following tasks by 2030:

maintaining the ecological integrity and connectivity of natural ecosystems;
restoration of at least 30% of disturbed and ineffectively used ecological systems;
increasing the area of specially protected natural territories to 9.4% of the total area of the country, and the area of territories subject to special protection to 22%;
maintaining the genetic diversity of natural flora and fauna, cultivated plants, agricultural and domestic animals, and creating and replenishing the Republican DNA Bank of humans, animals, plants, and microorganisms;
minimizing the impact of invasive alien species of wild animals and wild plants on the state of ecosystems;
minimizing the negative impact of climate change on biological and landscape diversity;
creating legal and economic mechanisms that stimulate the rational use of natural resources.

The Resolution also approves the National Action Plan for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity for 2026-2030.

It provides for measures aimed at:

improving legal regulation and the accounting system in the field of biological diversity; developing the system of specially protected natural territories;
preventing harmful impacts on biological diversity as a result of economic and other activities, and conserving and sustainably using wildlife and plant resources;
reducing the harmful impact of invasive alien species of animals and plants;
developing the system of information support for activities on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity and strengthening international cooperation;

Government bodies are instructed to consider the provisions of the Strategy when developing state programs, action plans, schemes, and other documents, as well as regulatory legal acts aimed at implementing its priority areas.
