World Water Day

The country places great emphasis on ensuring continuous and high-quality water supply, and efforts are underway to improve the ecological state of water resources. At the same time, water resources are among the most vulnerable components of the natural environment and can be significantly impacted with extensive consequences for both society and ecosystems.

The main areas of activity in water protection, including in the Vitebsk region, include monitoring and assessing the ecological state of surface water bodies, implementing measures to reduce the discharge of pollutants in wastewater into surface water bodies (reconstruction and construction of treatment facilities), thereby preventing surface water pollution, measures aimed at preventing groundwater pollution (sealing of unused wells, decommissioning of filtration fields), and much more.

According to surface water monitoring data, the ecological state of water bodies within the region as a whole is assessed as sufficiently favorable, and the water quality of the region's main rivers has remained stable in recent years.

Continuous observation, development and timely implementation of a set of various measures at all levels, and effective interaction of all water stakeholders will make it possible to preserve the most important resource and ensure the high quality of surface and groundwater, and the environment as a whole. Every person can contribute to saving and preserving water – this invaluable gift for our planet and for future generations.

On March 20, 2026, the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference "Current Issues of Efficient and Integrated Water Resources Management" will be held in Minsk, at the Republican Unitary Enterprise "Central Research Institute for Comprehensive Water Resources Management," dedicated to World Water Day.

The Conference will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, its territorial bodies and subordinate organizations, as well as scientific organizations, educational institutions, and other organizations.
