Special comprehensive event

The special comprehensive event "Spawning" has started in Belarus.

From March 16 to June 8, a special comprehensive event "Spawning" is being held in the country's fishing grounds, the main objectives of which are defined as:

enhanced control over the compliance by citizens and legal entities with the requirements of legislation in fishing grounds;

removal of nets and other prohibited fishing gear from illegal circulation.

"Spawning is one of the most important links in the fish life cycle. Most species of fish inhabiting the waters and watercourses of Belarus are spring-spawning. During this period, additional protective measures are needed to ensure that fish can produce numerous and viable offspring." In connection with the start of the spawning ban period in Belarus, control measures for compliance with fishing rules are being strengthened. During the specified period, control measures for compliance with environmental legislation will be intensified, and preventive work among the population is planned with maximum use of mass media opportunities. Public involvement significantly assists inspection officers in identifying cases of poaching.

Spawning ban periods: Brest and Gomel regions - from March 20 to May 18; Grodno, Minsk, and Mogilev regions - from April 1 to May 30; Vitebsk region - from April 10 to June 8.

During this period, the use of boats, nets, fishing in the dark, as well as catching certain species of fish are prohibited. During this period, a ban on amateur and commercial fishing of pike is established throughout all regions of Belarus. In addition, the ban on catfish fishing continues until March 31.

It is allowed to use a fishing rod and a spinning rod. The main thing is that there is only one hook on the tackle. If the spinning lure is designed to have two treble hooks, it is also allowed to use it.

Spawning bans help preserve fish resources and maintain ecological balance. In addition to controlling water bodies, measures will be strengthened regarding the illegal acquisition and storage of prohibited fishing gear.
