The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection notes that the most effective method for combating Sosnowsky's hogweed and Canadian goldenrod is the chemical method – spot or broadcast application of specialized preparations. In 2025, an area exceeding six thousand hectares was cleared of hogweed in the republic, which amounted to over one hundred percent of the established annual target. Last year, more than twelve thousand hectares were cleared of Canadian goldenrod – 128 percent of the plan. 619 patches of Sosnowsky's hogweed and 1061 patches of Canadian goldenrod were destroyed. From September 1 to October 1, 2025, all locations of hazardous plant growth were surveyed, identifying over a thousand new hogweed outbreaks and four thousand goldenrod outbreaks. The main area occupied by invasive species is agricultural land – 59 percent for goldenrod and 57 percent for hogweed. The second largest area is public lands in settlements, where approximately 22 percent of the total area of both species grows. The primary reason for the spread of these plants is the large seed bank of hogweed in the soil, which prevents its eradication in a short period. This year, district plans for regulating the spread of hogweed and goldenrod have been approved, and a draft republican plan for land management has been prepared. The only realistic way to contain the expansion of hazardous plants is to bring land into economic circulation and carry out timely regulation measures. In the Rossony district, work has begun on regulating the spread and population of Sosnowsky's hogweed.
