BAN ON CATFISH FISHING IN BELARUS: what anglers need to know?

The spawning period for the wels catfish has begun. During this time, the fish leave their usual habitats and become defenseless against humans. To preserve the population, strict restrictions are being introduced in the country. In the Brest and Gomel regions, the ban is in effect from May 19 to June 19. In Minsk, Grodno, Mogilev, and Vitebsk regions, from May 31 to July 1. What to do if you accidentally catch one: Immediately release the catfish back into the water. Unharmed. Violation is punishable by a fine of 10 to 30 basic units (Part 1 of Article 16.25 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus) with possible confiscation of fishing gear.
