New rules for handling wastewater in private households have been developed in Belarus

From January 1, 2027, new requirements for wastewater management in private households will come into force in Belarus.

According to amendments to the Water Code, individuals will be prohibited from discharging any type of wastewater outside their land plots. The restriction applies to domestic, rainwater, meltwater, and other wastewater.

Thus, discharging wastewater into roadside ditches, culverts, ravines, water bodies, or neighboring plots will become illegal.

To comply with the new requirements, owners of private houses and dachas will need to ensure the treatment and disposal of wastewater within their property boundaries through local treatment facilities or by connecting to a centralized sewage system, if available.

The new regulations will take effect from January 1, 2027.
