WATER USE: WHAT CHANGES FOR ORGANIZATIONS

The new edition of the Water Code introduces changes for business entities as well.

Special Water Use Permits

New cases requiring a permit:

✧ Extraction of groundwater in volumes exceeding 5 m³ per day

✧ Withdrawal of surface water in volumes exceeding 5 m³ per day (including for watering and cleaning, land reclamation, irrigation of plants)

✧ Discharge of quarry (mine, pit) waters into surface water bodies

✧ Water use related to water flow regulation during the operation of thermal and electric power plants

Leasing of Water Bodies

✧ Surface water bodies can be leased for recreation, physical culture, sports, and tourism

✧ Leasing for fish farming by individuals is canceled (only for legal entities)

Wastewater Treatment Facilities

✧ A separate article on the operation of wastewater treatment facilities has been introduced

✧ The Government is to develop the procedure for operating decentralized (autonomous) sewage systems

Temporary Discharge Standards

✧ Temporary standards are established for the duration of project documentation implementation, but not exceeding 3 years

✧ A single extension of up to 3 years is possible if available
