Smoking Prevention
Both active and passive smoking increase the risk of developing many serious diseases, primarily oncological and cardiovascular diseases, as well as respiratory, brain, and digestive system diseases. Human appearance also suffers, especially the skin and teeth. Therefore, prevention is of great importance. We recommend following these tips:
- If you have smoking friends and relatives, remind them of the harm smoking causes to their health and the health of their loved ones (children, women). Never create a comfortable environment for smoking, do not give smokers pleasant "smoking" accessories (expensive cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays). In every way, support the smoker's desire to quit smoking.
- When deciding to quit smoking, think about what you gain instead: your health and the health of your loved ones, and saving money. Quitting smoking will positively affect your health in just 6 months.
- Set a date for quitting smoking in advance.
- It is recommended to quit smoking immediately, without trying to reduce the number of cigarettes or switch to "light" cigarettes first, as it has been proven that the idea of reducing the harm of smoking is merely a "fiction" that only hinders a decisive break from it.
- Try to avoid situations that provoke smoking, including the company of smokers.
- Engaging in interesting and useful activities, as well as chewing gum, helps overcome the urge to smoke.
- After quitting smoking, taste sensitivity improves, and appetite may increase, leading to weight gain in the first 2-3 months. Therefore, try to consume low-calorie foods and increase your physical activity. Usually, body weight returns to its baseline within a year after quitting smoking.
- Do not despair if you have a relapse. With repeated attempts, the chances of success increase.
- Consult a doctor for help in quitting smoking. They can prescribe medication to reduce withdrawal symptoms; follow their advice.
