World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day has been celebrated worldwide since 1992 on the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, with the aim of raising public awareness of mental health issues and ways to improve it, as well as preventing and treating mental disorders.
This Day is celebrated annually on October 10.
Mental health is an integral part and a crucial component of health. It is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual can realize his or her abilities and potential, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and fruitfully, and contribute to his or her community. In this positive sense, mental health is the foundation of individual well-being and the effective functioning of the entire community.
The most common mental illness is depression. According to the WHO, it currently ranks first among diseases in terms of duration of disability per year.
One of the main objectives of World Mental Health Day is to reduce the prevalence of depressive disorders, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, drug addiction, epilepsy, and intellectual disability.
Information overload and global political and economic cataclysms contribute to the increase in morbidity, and stresses are precursors to diseases.
Modern life itself is conducive to stress: changes in political and economic life, workplace troubles, and even a simple trip on public transport lead to people accepting their stresses, which can easily lead to depression. Stresses have become an integral part of modern life. People fight them without realizing that they should not fight them, but prevent them.
Recommendations to help you stay in positive emotions more often:
1. Review and adjust your schedule, and start getting enough sleep.
2. Make time for walks, sports, reading books, and creative activities. This will relieve tension, give you rest and positive emotions.
3. Learn to enjoy the present moment. It is the only thing we are given. Often, people live in the past, in the future, or in their imaginary world altogether. Of course, one must consider past mistakes and view them as experience, and make plans for the future. But we can only manage our lives from the present.
4. Recall everything that evokes pleasant emotions in you; this is your list for support and resource recovery. Every day, do something from this list to maintain joy within yourself.
5. Learn to be surprised and notice interesting details in everything around you. This will lift you above the hustle and bustle and make you more relaxed.
6. Learn more about yourself and do not be afraid to change. Change is the basis of evolution, growth, and development.
7. Write down everything that irritates you, stresses you out, and evokes negative emotions. Look at these situations from the outside, noticing not only the contribution of society and your loved ones to their occurrence but also your own. It is important to recognize your negative emotions and understand that they exist. This will allow you to detach from them, meaning you can manage them. If it is difficult to do this on your own, consult a psychologist – a state of inner freedom and happiness is guaranteed.
Only you can take care of yourself and make your life better; your life is only in your hands!
