Blood donation

On June 14, 2024, World Blood Donor Day will be celebrated worldwide once again.

Blood donation (from Latin donare - "to give") is the voluntary donation of one's own blood or its components for subsequent transfusion to patients in need or for the production of medical preparations. According to statistics, every third person needs donor blood at least once in their life.

Citizens of the Republic of Belarus aged 18 to 65, who have undergone a medical examination and do not suffer from diseases for which donation is contraindicated, can become donors. The donor's weight must be at least 55 kg, and blood pressure - not lower than 100/80 mm Hg.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BLOOD (PLASMA) DONORS?

  • the donor must lead a healthy lifestyle;
  • get adequate sleep and rest, and do not come for donation after a night shift;
  • do not conceal information from the doctor about past illnesses, or casual sexual contacts that could lead to HIV, hepatitis, or sexually transmitted infections;
  • do not consume alcoholic beverages (including beer) for three days before donating blood;
  • do not come for blood donation if you have symptoms of an acute illness (runny nose, cough, headache, sore throat, etc.);
  • do not consume fatty foods the day before and on the day of blood donation;

(Exclude fatty, fried, spicy foods, dairy and fermented milk products (butter, cream, milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, kefir, cheese, yogurt), lard, mayonnaise, nuts, seeds, eggs, chocolate, vegetable oils, meat broths, and sausages from your diet 1-2 days before blood donation.

Protein-rich foods, lean meats, juices, fresh vegetables, and fruits (exclude lemon, orange, tangerine, banana) are recommended, as well as a bun and black tea. Increase fluid intake to 1.5-2 liters 1-2 days before blood donation.

A light breakfast is recommended on the morning of blood donation (tea, juice, buns, vegetables, fruits, porridge cooked with water, lean meat)).

Failure to comply with the dietary regimen will result in the donor being excluded from blood donation!!!!

  • avoid significant physical exertion and psycho-emotional stress.

HOW OFTEN CAN BLOOD BE DONATED?

Once every 2 months (60 days), after the 5th donation - at least 90 days. Men can donate blood no more than 5 times a year, women - no more than 4 times a year. After donating plasma, at least 14 days must pass before the donor can donate plasma again.

If you feel well, have no health contraindications, and wish to donate blood to help those in need, you are doing a good deed!
