Medical care should not harm anyone

World Patient Safety Day will be celebrated on September 17, 2024. This year, the theme chosen for World Patient Safety Day is: "Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety". The slogan is: "Don't make mistakes, remember safety!"

The main goal of observing World Patient Safety Day is to draw more attention to improving the quality of medical care provided to the population.

Causes of harm to patients' health:

 1. Inaccurate or delayed diagnosis is one of the most common causes of patient harm, affecting millions of people.

  2. Medication errors. These occur where systemic deficiencies in the organization of drug therapy, as well as human factors such as fatigue, unsatisfactory working conditions, or staff shortages, affect the correctness of prescribing, accounting, dispensing, administration of drugs, and monitoring their use, which in turn can cause serious harm to the patient, lead to disability or even death.

 3. Healthcare-associated infections (due to non-compliance by medical personnel with sanitary and epidemiological legislation during the provision of medical care).

Safe medical care begins with correct, high-quality, open communication between doctor and patient. Patient openness in communication with healthcare professionals (informing about their sensations during examinations, about taking medications, about the use of traditional medicine treatments) contributes to ensuring the safety of treatment. Do not self-medicate; it is better to consult a doctor in a timely manner and follow their recommendations, including those regarding daily routine, diet, and physical activity, and undergo regular preventive (dispensary) examinations.

Drug and surgical safety, environmental safety, patient care organization, and emergency and urgent care provision must always be observed in all medical organizations.

Therefore, lead a healthy lifestyle, undergo regular medical examinations - and you will be healthy!
