September 17 – National Unity Day

Day of National Unity (Belarusian: Дзень народнага адзінства) is a public holiday in Belarus, celebrated annually on September 17. It was established on June 7, 2021, by Decree No. 206 of the President of the Republic of Belarus, A.G. Lukashenko.

The holiday is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Polish_campaign_of_the_Red_Army, which began on September 17, 1939. As a result of this campaign, Western Belarus was annexed to the Byelorussian SSR.

The purpose of the holiday is to unite all citizens of the Republic of Belarus, regardless of social status and religious views, around national values.

On the Day of National Unity, various events dedicated to the history of Belarus and its people are held throughout the country: rallies, concerts, screenings of thematic films, motor rallies, exhibitions, sports competitions, mass festivities, and celebratory processions through the streets of cities and towns.

Thus, from September 5 to September 17, 2024, the premiere screening of the film "Cultural Code" will take place on the screen at the district Center of Culture and Folk Art of the urban-type settlement of Rossony. This is a documentary-fiction film about the state symbols of the Republic of Belarus. The project was worked on by director Kirill Khaletsky. The new film "Cultural Code" has become a captivating artistic story with chronicle elements. The film is structured as an address to the younger generation of Belarusians and is dedicated to the state symbols of the Republic of Belarus. Moreover, both experts and ordinary citizens discuss their importance for each of us in the film. This is a fascinating short film with a duration of 36 minutes. According to the concept of the film, the main characters Vanya and Liza, graduates of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, must decipher the cultural code of Belarusians.

"Cultural Code" was filmed in the magnificent locations of the city of Minsk – the Opera House, Trinity Suburb, Victory Square, Academy of Music, Belarusian State Academy of Arts, Svisloch embankment, city streets.

The holiday, National Unity Day, reminds us that we must show respect for the traditions and symbols of the Republic of Belarus, be tolerant of people of different nationalities and religious denominations. To love our country and be its patriots.
