October 7, 2024 – World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

The events held on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day aim to draw public attention to the problems of terminally ill people who are on the verge of life and death, to raise awareness of the issues of palliative care and hospices, to increase understanding of the medical, social, practical, and spiritual needs of people with incurable diseases and their families, and to promote the development of charitable foundations capable of supporting and developing the hospice and palliative care movement worldwide.

What is "palliative care"? Palliative care is a type of medical care provided to patients with incurable, life-limiting diseases that require the use of medical care methods aimed at relieving pain and alleviating other symptoms of diseases when the possibilities of other medical care methods are exhausted, in order to improve the patient's quality of life. This care consists of four components and includes medical, social, psychological, and spiritual aspects. In palliative medicine, a specialist delves into the problems of a person, not a diagnosis. Because not only cancer patients, but also patients with diabetes, people after heart attack and stroke need such care...

In the Republic of Belarus, palliative care is provided in hospices for adults, in palliative care units in hospitals, and there are also visiting care services that provide assistance at home.

A hospice is a form of palliative care, a specialized medical institution for the care of terminally ill people at the end of life. There, they are provided with palliative medical care and adequate care, as close as possible to "home" conditions.

Hospice and palliative care is not "helping a person to die," but rather helping every patient suffering from an incurable disease to live the remaining time in the most comfortable conditions possible.

The most important thing in life is not to lose humanity within oneself, to be humane and to be able to support the people around you in any life situation.
