15 декабря 2024 года– всемирный день профилактики травматизма

December 15, 2024 – World Injury Prevention Day

Traumatism poses a serious threat to the health and lives of adults and children.

Every year, millions of people worldwide, due to personal carelessness and negligence or due to someone else's criminal negligence and irresponsibility, sustain injuries, become disabled, or lose their lives.

Depending on the location where injuries are sustained, there are several types of traumatism:

occupational – industrial, agricultural;

non-occupational – road traffic, street, domestic, sports, military;

child traumatism – is singled out as a separate category.

Prevention of occupational traumatism:

  Strict adherence to safety regulations at the workplace. Workers must be provided with functional personal protective equipment and workwear. First aid kits with a replenishable set of medications, bandages, splints, etc., must be available for providing first medical aid. All new employees must undergo periodic medical examinations and mandatory safety training. Knowledge acquisition in the field of safety and its verification should be continuous.

Prevention of non-occupational traumatism

Domestic injuries include accidents that occur at home, in apartments, in yards, and other places not related to professional activities.

The main cause of such injuries (about a third of cases) is performing household chores (cooking, cleaning and repairing premises, etc.). Injuries predominantly include bruises, wounds, burns, etc. The hand is the most vulnerable area. About a quarter of domestic injuries occur due to falls in the yard or apartment. Alcohol intoxication is the main cause of domestic injuries, especially on holidays and weekends.

PREVENTION OF DOMESTIC INJURIES INCLUDES:

improvement of living conditions;

rational organization of leisure; conducting various cultural and mass events;

extensive anti-alcohol propaganda;

targeted work to create a healthy lifestyle;

organization of special commissions at housing offices to combat domestic traumatism;

broad public involvement.

Road traffic injuries are injuries sustained as a result of using vehicles (while they are in motion).

PREVENTION OF PEDESTRIAN INJURIES INVOLVES:

rational planning and improvement of streets and roadways, proper maintenance thereof;

lighting of streets and squares, fencing of buildings under construction and repair;

rational organization and regulation of street traffic, strict control over compliance with traffic rules;

ensuring good technical condition and safety of street transport;

supervision of children and their leisure activities;

planned educational and awareness-raising work with the public.

TO AVOID DANGER DURING ICY CONDITIONS:

watch your step carefully;

walk slowly, without taking wide steps;

step on your entire sole, not on your toes or the ball of your foot;

avoid uncleared streets and slippery spots;

walk where sidewalks are sprinkled with sand;

attach a strip of sandpaper or regular adhesive bandage to the soles of your shoes;

wear shoes with grooved soles;

during icy conditions, women should refrain from wearing high heels.

Prevention of Childhood Injuries:

Constant adult supervision of children's behavior in kindergarten, school, at home, and especially outdoors is the most important measure for preventing domestic injuries to children.

Improvement of courtyards, equipping them with special playgrounds.

Organization of leisure activities, summer and winter recreation for children.

Storage of sharp and cutting objects, explosives, poisonous and flammable liquids in places inaccessible to children.

Teaching children how to use common household sharp objects (forks, knives, fountain pens, etc.).

Children should know that their health and well-being largely depend on themselves!

Parents, guardians, and educators must always remember that childhood and adolescent injuries can only be avoided through education and instilling in them strong habits of safe behavior. The positive example of adults plays a significant role in developing cautious behavior habits in adolescents.

Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
