5 people drowned over the weekend in the Vitebsk region

The incidents occurred in Polotsk, Vitebsk, and Sharkovshchina districts. A total of 30 people have drowned in the Vitebsk region since the beginning of the year, including 2 minors, which is 5 more cases than last year.

In the evening of June 16, rescuers received a report of a drowned person on Lake Gorodno in the village of Gorodnyansky Mokh, Vitebsk district. Witnesses said that the man was drinking alcoholic beverages on the shore of the reservoir and then decided to swim. His body was found by rescuers 150 meters from the shore only the next day. The deceased, born in 1987, lived in the village of Zubaki, Vitebsk district, and was unemployed.

On June 17, at 17:21, rescuers received a report of a drowned person on Lake Svaty near the agro-town of Polota, Polotsk district. As the woman said, she and her brother were relaxing by the lake. While swimming, she noticed that her brother, born in 1972, began to drown. After unsuccessful attempts by witnesses to help the man, rescuers were called. His body was recovered an hour later by the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees.

On June 17, another call about a drowned man was received by rescuers at 20:02. At the scene in an artificial reservoir on Slivovaya Street in the garden partnership "Stroitel" of Vitebsk district, Ministry of Emergency Situations employees found the body of a drowned man 10 meters from the shore. As witnesses reported, the man swam away from the shore and after some time began to drown. They tried to help him, but could not, after which they called the Ministry of Emergency Situations units.

In the morning of June 18, a drowned man was found by residents in Lake Knyazh in the village of Stolitsa, Sharkovshchina district. The pensioner, born in 1959, was pulled out of the water by local residents. Witnesses said that the man was fishing from a boat and then disappeared from view. Later, passers-by found his body on the surface of the water.

In the evening of June 18, Polotsk rescuers were called by a woman who reported a drowned teenager in a quarry near Kalinin Street in the city of Polotsk. As the deceased's friend said, they went to the reservoir for recreation, and they had low-alcohol beverages with them. A little later, the friend decided to swim and, swimming away from the shore, disappeared from view. His body was found by Ministry of Emergency Situations employees at a depth of about 2.5 meters.
