In just the first 10 days of the new year, the statistics are grim – 43 people have died in residential fires!

A particularly shocking incident resulted in the deaths of 4 people: on January 8th at 21:19, rescuers were alerted to a fire in an apartment of a single-story, two-unit residential building at 42 Kozintseva-Prokopchika Street in Slutsk. At the scene, the deceased were identified as the owner, born in 1951, and a woman living with him, born in 1957. Additionally, a male guest, born in 1968, and a female guest, born in 1971, who were visiting, also perished. Furthermore, there were 4 fires with double fatalities: on January 1st in the village of Turki, Bobruisk district; on January 4th in the agro-town of Luchniki, Slutsk district; on January 5th in the town of Dubrovno; and on January 7th in the village of Vasilevichi, Zhlobin district.

In almost all of these incidents, the cause can be attributed to a simple arithmetic equation – ALCOHOL + SMOKING.

To prevent fires in residential buildings, fire safety and prevention work will be conducted by employees of the Rossony District Department for Emergency Situations on January 13th-14th throughout the Rossony district.

Rescuers remind you:

- Do not smoke in apartments (houses), especially in bed, and particularly when under the influence of alcohol;

- Do not use paper bags, matchboxes, or cigarette packs as ashtrays – they can ignite;

- Empty your ashtray promptly when it is full;

- Do not throw even extinguished cigarettes into trash cans, from balconies, or loggias;

- Ensure that ash does not fall onto flammable materials or the floor;

- Store matches, lighters, and cigarettes in a place inaccessible to children.
