Why is a standalone smoke detector needed?

A dismissive attitude towards autonomous smoke detectors can still sometimes be heard from our citizens. However, statistics increasingly record cases where autonomous smoke detectors provide timely warnings of danger, thereby averting disaster.

 

Statistics show that over 50% of fatal fires occur precisely when a person is asleep. In their sleep, individuals do not smell smoke and are therefore most vulnerable. Early detection of a fire, and thus the prevention of fires, loss of life, and material damage, can be achieved by installing an autonomous smoke detector (hereinafter referred to as ASD) in an apartment. Thanks to this small, inexpensive device, the lives of over 20 people, including children, are saved annually.

  An ASD is installed on a horizontal ceiling surface at a distance of at least one meter from lighting fixtures and 0.5 meters from the wall. The installation of the detector does not require special knowledge or skills. A detailed instruction manual is included, containing all necessary information on installation, design, and operating procedures. The device does not spoil the interior; its mounting plate is secured to the ceiling with screws, and the ASD itself is installed by turning it clockwise until it stops.

For removal, simply turn the device counterclockwise. The detector operates on a single "Krona" type battery. It is recommended to clean the smoke detector of dust with a vacuum cleaner once a year and to check its operability monthly by pressing the test button.

A flashing red LED signal on the ASD housing indicates its proper functioning and standby mode. Upon detecting smoke, the ASD emits an intermittent audible alarm with a steady red LED illumination. To stop the detector's audible alarm, the source of smoke must be eliminated and the room ventilated.
