He fished too much. A pensioner drowned in the Polotsk district

On August 24 at 12:45 PM, the rescue service received a report via phone "101" about a drowning person on Lake Vyrveno near the agro-town of Polota, Polotsk district.

As the eyewitness of the tragedy recounted, he arrived early in the morning with a company for fishing. Around 12:35 PM, he noticed that about 50 meters from the shore, a man who was fishing from an inflatable boat suddenly fell out and began to drown. He tried to hold onto the boat, but his independent rescue efforts were unsuccessful. The eyewitness lost sight of the drowning person and immediately called rescuers.

A little later, during a survey of the lake's water area, 30 meters from the shore, divers from OSVOD found and retrieved the fisherman, born in 1958, from the water.

For reference: the incident occurred near the agro-town of Polota, Polotsk district, on Lake Vyrveno. The maximum depth of the lake is about 22 meters, the width of the lake is 1400 meters, and the depth of the lake at the location where the drowned person was found is about 7 meters.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations informs: as of August 25, 2023, since the beginning of the year, 57 people have drowned in the waters of the Vitebsk region, including 3 children. Dear citizens, please observe the rules of conduct on water bodies and do not leave children unattended near water!
